Staying Hydrated & Fueled: The Key to Your Best Dance Class

At Praise Him Dance Academy, we believe that dance is more than movement—it’s a way to worship, express joy, and glorify God with our bodies. To do that well, it's important to care for our bodies. Two key ways to prepare for a great dance class are by staying hydrated and fueling ourselves with the right nutrition.

Why Hydration Matters
Water is essential for every function in our body, and for dancers, it plays a special role in keeping our movements fluid and safe. One of the most important benefits of staying hydrated is maintaining healthy synovial fluid. This fluid is found in our joints and acts like a lubricant, allowing for smooth movement and reducing friction between bones. Without enough hydration, joints can feel stiff, and movement can become uncomfortable.
Think of it this way: just like oil keeps a car engine running smoothly, water keeps our joints and muscles working efficiently. If we don’t drink enough, we may feel sluggish, experience muscle cramps, or even be at risk for injury. So, be sure to drink plenty of water the day before and the day of class and bring a water bottle to class!

Fueling Your Body for Dance
In addition to water, what you eat before class can have a big impact on your energy and endurance. Eating the right foods before dancing helps your muscles perform at their best and keeps your focus sharp.
Here are a few great options for pre-class snacks:
• A banana with a handful of almonds (energy + healthy fats)
• Whole grain toast with peanut butter (slow-burning carbs + protein)
• Greek yogurt with honey and berries (protein + natural sugars for energy)
Avoid heavy, greasy, or sugary foods right before class, as they can make you feel sluggish. Instead, choose something light yet nourishing about 30-60 minutes before dancing.

Honoring God Through Self-Care
1 Corinthians 10:31 reminds us, “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” Taking care of your body through hydration and proper nutrition isn’t just about better dancing—it’s about honoring the Lord with the temple He has given you. When we are well-fueled and hydrated, we can dance with strength, endurance, and joy, fully expressing our worship through movement.
So, before your next class, grab a water bottle, eat a nourishing snack, and step into the studio ready to give your best!
Stay hydrated, stay nourished, and keep dancing!
